This arrangement, based on Mussorgsky's music for the opera Mlada, bears a close stylistic resemblance to The Great Gates of Kiev and Night on Bare Mountain. It is both militaristic and in parts soulful. The strident chordal playing is typical of his piano style, and amalgamations of contrasting thematic ideas place this piece in the technically more advanced category.
